Gentle trips for new paddlers wanting to gain experience, confidence and stamina.
Improver sessions run from April to November or December if the weather and flow are reasonable. Sessions are on Saturday mornings, Sundays or Wednesday evenings, depending on the availability of experienced leaders.
For paddlers with One Star/Hampton Paddler skills, or equivalent skills in our open cockpit boats
Led by an experienced club paddler, coaches occasionally attending
This is a chance to gain experience and develop paddling strength but it is not a substitute for coaching sessions: paddlers are responsible for their own welfare
The session is usually about three to five miles in all, depending on weather and river conditions
No session fees for members or non-members either. Boat fees are payable as usual.
Non-members may only paddle with the club up to four times (sorry, this is the requirement from our insurers) and need to have either passed their 1* course or been assessed by one of our coaches. Note: if a non-member has done an assessment they can only paddle 3 more times and if they have done a one star course they can only paddle twice more without being a member.
Pre-booking is required; let the trip leader know your mobile number, in case last-minute changes have to be made. This enables the trip leader to match the trip planned with the strength of the paddlers.
Paddlers provide their own kit, including dry kit for afterwards. Only boats, paddles and buoyancy aids can be hired, as usual.
