RNLI Training – November 20th, 2021

The RNLI saves lives at sea, and our local branch is at Teddington, covering from Richmond to Molesey. So we were delighted to return to Teddington to train with them again on 20 November.

Maxine explained the key features of a range of our boats, and I demonstrated how to empty a K1.  Peter Loy and Elliott demonstrated their rescue skills. Derek and Tamra flooded various boats for the RNLI crew to practise emptying. Michèle Springall in a white water boat and Maxine in a sea kayak were suddenly ‘injured’ and needed rescuing.  Finally, the RNLI discovered a capsized sea kayak: righting it using the ‘Hand of God’ technique revealed Peter, who definitely needed rescuing.  Elliott was on hand to ensure Peter was rescued before he ran out of breath!

It was great to train with real experts, to share ideas and to enable the RNLI to be a bit better prepared for kayak and canoe incidents (Andrew)
