First time this year the Sunbury reach of the Thames has not been on red boards which went up on 21 Dec 2013. There is still a significant flow where the river is squeezed between islands or bridge parapets – take care!

A large tree is embedded in the centre of the navigation channel approx. 50m below the railway bridge at Dapdune Wharf, Guildford.

The obstruction is passable with extreme care. Arrangements are being made to remove the tree.

Basingstoke Canal Information

Up to the minute information on conditions and restrictions on the Basingstoke canal can be found both on their website and Facebook page. (You need to have a Facebook account to access this) The Basingstoke canal society news page also has updates on landslips and trees down etc.

Having paddled from the Barley Mow to the Greywell Tunnel and back today we can report that all the fallen trees have been cleared from this section of the canal.

The landslip is about half a mile downstream from the Barley Mow car-park, this part of the canal is ‘officially’ closed to all navigation until it has been tidied up.
